Mama's Baked Mac & Cheese
Today, we're diving into the comforting world of Mama's Baked Mac and Cheese – a recipe that holds a special place in my culinary journey, having been one of the first dishes I learned to make as a young adult.
Ingredients
- 16 oz box large macaroni noodles
- 4 TBSP butter
- 4 TBSP flour
- 16 oz 4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 cups milk
- black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350
- Cook pasta 2 minutes less than package directions, drain
- In the same pot melt the butter over medium heat and then add the flour to make a roux. Cook for about one minute until smooth
- Whisk in the milk and cook until the milk warms and begins to thicken.
- Add the cheese and pepper and stir occasionally until the cheese is completely melted and smooth
- Stir in the pasta and transfer to a casserole dish
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until the top begins to crisp and the edges are bubbly
