    Hi Jamie,

Congratulations on the website! I’m curious about the addition of rice, if added, how would you go about that? Cooked longgrain, instant uncooked, …… any advice on this would be appreciated 🙂

I really like the frozen microwaveable rice from Trader Joe’s. Leftover rice would be perfect too. I’ve never tried adding uncooked rice before.

I just made this for dinner tonight. I added uncooked long grain rice as the soup was simmering and it turned out perfect!

What pound package of ground beef do you use?

Good question – 1 to 1.5 pounds of a lean ground beef (or ground turkey).

Hi, I just saw this video. I’ll be making this ASAP. When adding rice, how much do I add? Thank you. I can’t wait to try this!

If you want to add rice, I usually start with about 1 cup of cooked rice and stir it in right at the end. You can add more or less depending on how hearty you like your soup. If you only have uncooked rice, I recommend cooking it separately first so it doesn’t absorb all the broth.

This was so good. I loved that I had enough for lunch for a few days. I only had one bag of cole slaw mix and it was fine. I used boil in back rice and I put it in at the end like you said. Would definitely make this again and use 2 bags of cole slaw mix from Target. Thank you!

Could I use ground chicken in place of beef? Would I need to use chicken stock?

I love this recipe. I don’t add the rice because I’m trying to lose weight but I can’t stop making it. I’m addicted to it and the pounds are melting off too! Love your website. I found you on FB.

When I make it for my grandkids, I’ll add the rice. 😊

I have a 12 year-old granddaughter who has never liked any soup EVER! I made this for the first time last month and was planning on making something different for her. When she walked in the door after school, she asked “what is that delicious smell”? I told her it’s cabbage soup. She agreed to taste it and she LOVED it!
This weekend she’s down with the flu and she has actually requested that I make this soup! Thank you, Jamie for converting my daughter to liking soup!

I’m so sorry she was feeling sick. I hope the soup was a bright spot in her day. I’m so glad she likes it. My son, also 12, enjoys it too.
