Easy Apple Nachos
Healthy After-School Snack Idea
If you’re looking for something quick, easy, and just a little bit fun, these easy apple nachos are it. They come together in about 10 minutes, use simple ingredients you probably already have on hand, and you can customize them however you want.
This is one of those recipes that works for after-school snacks, a sweet treat after dinner, or even a snack board for a party. I like to grab a few different types of apples, slice them up, and then add a variety of toppings so everyone can pick their favorite.
It’s simple, it’s colorful, and it always disappears fast.
Choosing the Best Apples
One of my favorite things about this recipe is using a mix of apples for different flavors and textures.
I used:
- Gala apples – naturally sweet and soft, great for kids
- Honeycrisp apples – crisp, juicy, and slightly sweet
- Granny Smith apples – tart and a little more firm (perfect balance with sweet toppings)
Using a mix gives you that sweet and tart combo that makes these really good.
How to Cut the Apples
You can slice your apples however you prefer—thin wedges, rounds, or even smaller bite-sized pieces.I like to use my apple slicer because it’s quick, easy, and gives you even slices every time.
How to Keep Apples Fresh After Cutting
Once apples are sliced, they can start to brown pretty quickly. The good news is there are a few easy ways to slow that down so they stay fresh and look good.
- Lemon Water (my go-to):
This is what I used. After slicing, I place the apples in a bowl of water with fresh lemon juice, give them a quick toss, then drain and pat dry. It helps prevent browning without really affecting the flavor. - Quick Rinse with Tap Water:
You can also just rinse the sliced apples under cold tap water. I’m not exactly sure why it works, but it does help slow the browning a bit and is a super easy option. - Salt Water:
Mix ½ teaspoon salt with 1 cup of water and soak the apples for 3–5 minutes, then rinse well. It doesn’t taste salty if you rinse them and works really well. - Honey Water:
Mix 1–2 tablespoons honey with 1 cup of water and soak for a few minutes. This adds a slight sweetness and helps keep apples looking fresh. - Fruit Juice:
Use pineapple juice, orange juice, or even apple juice. These all contain natural acids that help prevent browning.

How to Serve
I like to spread everything out on a large platter so you can see all the toppings. I have a couple of rectangular serving platters that work perfectly for this
You can:
- serve the apples and toppings separately so everyone can build their own
- or create sections with different flavor combinations already prepared
Both options look great and are perfect for sharing. If serving unassembled, you may want to include some skewers. This way guests can dip their apples into the sauces and toppings.
Tips for Success
- Serve right away for the best texture
- Use lemon water to help prevent browning
- Pat apples dry before adding toppings so everything sticks
- Warm peanut butter or chocolate for easy drizzling
- Don’t overthink it—this is meant to be easy
