Easy 3 Ingredient Biscuits Recipe (No Yeast, No Fuss)
Welcome back to In Jamie’s Kitchen! Today I’m excited to share my easy 3 ingredient biscuits recipe. A shortcut, no-yeast biscuit that’s downright magical. Whether you call them “soda biscuits,” “Sprite biscuits,” or just “quick drop biscuits,” this recipe is one you’ll return to again and again.
So, what makes these biscuits special? First, no yeast, no kneading, no rising time. Second, they’re done in about 20 minutes. Third, only three core ingredients (plus butter for baking). This is truly one of those “set-it-and-forget-it” recipes that yields soft, buttery, golden biscuits every time.
Why This 3 Ingredient Biscuit Recipe Works
- Because there’s no yeast or rising time, you skip the waiting. This is great when you want biscuits right now.
- The lemon-lime soda (e.g. Sprite or 7Up) acts as both a leavening agent and flavor enhancer.
- Using Greek yogurt (or sour cream) gives the dough moisture and richness.
- Bisquick (or a similar baking mix) keeps things simple and ensures a reliable structure.
- The melted butter in the baking dish gives the bottoms a wonderful, crisp, buttery flavor.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- ½ stick butter
- 2 cups Bisquick (plus extra for dusting hands/surface)
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt (or sour cream)
- ½ cup lemon-lime soda (like Sprite)
Note: Some folks debate whether butter “counts” as an ingredient since it’s used for baking rather than being mixed in. In your kitchen, it’s your call. Whether you decide it’s 3 or 4 ingredients, you’ll have buttery biscuits in under 30 minutes.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare the dish & melt the butter
Place your 8×8-inch baking dish with the butter inside into a cold oven, then preheat to 400°F. The butter will slowly melt while the oven warms up.
2. Mix the Dough
In a separate bowl, combine Bisquick, Greek yogurt, and soda. Stir just until everything is lightly moistened and combined into a big ball. Don’t overmix.
3. Adjust Texture if Needed
If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle in a bit more Bisquick until you can handle it gently.
4. Shape & Cut
Pat the dough into a square or rectangle. Use a knife or biscuit cutter to create 9 biscuits. You can cut into squares, then shape them into rounds, or skip the shaping altogether.
5. Bake
Place your shaped biscuits into the baking dish on top of the melted butter. Bake at 400 °F for about 20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

6. Serve warm
These are best straight from the oven! Serve with butter, jam, or alongside your favorite meal.
Tips, Swaps & Flavor Variations
- Salted vs. unsalted butter: Either will work. It’s really about preference. I like mine a little salty so I always use salted.
- Diet soda (Sprite Zero, etc.): Yes! I’ve tried it, and it works well.
- Using ginger ale or clear sodas: Some readers have substituted ginger ale or Mt. Dew and gotten tasty results. If you try carbonated water (La Croix, seltzer), you may need to add a little sugar to compensate.
- Cheesy garlic biscuits: Stir in ¼ to ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese + 1 tsp garlic powder for a savory twist.
- Stuffed biscuits: Roll the dough slightly, add cooked bacon or sliced ham + a bit of cheese, and fold closed before baking.
- Gluten-free option: I haven’t fully tested this yet, but using gluten-free pancake/biscuit mix in place of Bisquick might work with adjustments. I invite readers to experiment and share results.
FAQ – Your Biscuit Questions Answered
1. How many ingredients are there, really?
This recipe is commonly called “3 ingredient biscuits,” though technically butter is involved in baking, making it a fourth element. Many Southern cooks wouldn’t count that, so I’m sticking with “3 ingredient biscuits.”
2. Can I make these ahead and bake later?
I haven’t tried letting the shaped dough sit overnight without baking. Because there’s no yeast or predictable rising time, the texture might suffer. I recommend baking right away.
3. Can I use a different brand instead of Bisquick?
Yes. A comparable baking mix or drop biscuit mix should work if the ratio of leavening and flour is similar. If the mix you use is lighter or heavier, you may need to adjust the soda slightly.
4. What if I don’t have Greek yogurt?
Sour cream is a great substitute. Plain full-fat yogurt may also work, though the texture might be slightly different.
5. Why use soda in biscuits?
The soda gives lift (through carbonation) and adds a subtle flavor twist. It’s a shortcut when you don’t want to fuss with baking powder or yeast.
6. Can I freeze these biscuits?
Yes. After baking and cooling, wrap them tightly and freeze. Reheat in a warm oven (about 325 °F) until warmed through.
Serving Suggestions & Meal Pairings
These biscuits are incredibly versatile. Here are some ways to enjoy them:
- Breakfast or brunch: Serve warm with butter, honey, or jam. Or split and stuff with scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese.
- As a side: Pair with soups, stews, chili, or even fried chicken.
- Sandwiches: Use the biscuits as sandwich buns. Try sausage, ham, or pulled pork.
- Sweet version: Brush lightly with honey butter or top with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar.
Final Thoughts & Encouragement
If there’s one thing I want you to walk away with, it’s that homemade biscuits don’t have to be time-consuming or complicated. This easy 3 ingredient biscuits recipe is proof that with just a few pantry staples and 20 minutes, you can have warm, tender biscuits that feel indulgent.
Try the recipe as written first. Then, experiment with cheese, herbs, or fillings. And if you try a gluten-free mix or a soda swap, let me know how it turned out in the comments! I love hearing your kitchen triumphs (and misadventures).
Happy baking! May your biscuits always be fluffy, buttery, and delicious.

Video
@injamieskitchen I used to make these a lot but then I totally forgot about them. My daughter asked why I never posted a video for them so here it is. Melt 1/2 stick of butter in a baking dish in the oven while the oven preheats to 400°. Combine 2 cups Bisquick, 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup Sprite. Stir until combined. Roll or Pat out the dough. Cut into circles or be like me and cut into squares and then make them into circles. It really doesn’t matter what shape you use, they will still taste good. Put the biscuits in the baking dish on top of the butter. Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown. Enjoy them while they’re hot. Try adding a tsp of garlic and some shredded cheddar for a whole different flavor. #biscuitrecipe #homemadebiscuits #easybiscuits #spritebiscuits #3ingredientbiscuits

Your 3 ingredient biscuits sound wonderful! However they have 4 ingredients.
Too freaking funny. It is 4 ingredients!
Can diet Sprite be used?
Love the simplicity of this recipe! Making this tomorrow because I have all the ingredients in my kitchen and I do love biscuits!!
It’s only 3 ingredients. The butter is NOT incorporated into the biscuits. The biscuits are laid on top of the butter for baking. By the way, I had the Greek Yogurt and Lemon Lime Soda (Best Choice) and these were wonderful. Going to have one or two in the morning with peanut butter, I’m thinking
can I make them this afternoon but not bake them til tomorrow morning
I haven’t tried that but I donn’t think that will work.
They have 3 ingredients, the forth is the butter, they are baked in
The butter is used to grease the dish. It is not a core ingredient.

I like to watch her she is so funny! I had the recipe for the apple dumplings!!
the butter made for some great tasting biscuits.
thinking I’d try these with blueberry added.
My butter was probably salted as that is the only kind I buy!
that would probably taste really good I love blueberries
Salted or unsalted butter?
Whatever you have will work
I made these a little bit ago and had roasted chicken breasts to make hot chicken gravy sandwiches. They were so so good and super easy. I didn’t have sprite so I used ginger ale. Super result!
@Kitty Heidlebaugh – I was going to ask about using ginger ale. Thanks!
They turned out great! We gobbled them up.
well maybe if I wouldn’t have double the recipe it would have worked. I used all the bisquick the 1st time. didn’t have any left to make it not so wet… tried flour big fail.. I ended up putting the blob in the oven… TBD how the taste is 😆
Will Sprite Zero work?
Yes!! I tried it last week and it worked perfectly.
Can any other pancake mix work ? Or does it have to be this specific brand?
Can you use bubbly water like La Croix instead of sugary soda
I haven’t tried that yet. Let us know if you give it a go.
You will need to add sugar if using sparkling water. Otherwise the biscuits will taste bland.
You can use Sprite Zero
I have used flavored seltzer water, didn’t add sugar and they are great.
I absolutely LOVE these!!!! So grateful I found this recipe…. These are out of the park, YUMMMMMY! Thank you for sharing! 🩵
So glad to hear you love them. Thanks for the feedback.
Can you add pureed sweet potatoes?
I made these and my family said to never make any other biscuits. I used soyr cream and tonic soda because I didn’t have any sprite. The dough was a little too wet so next time I’ll try cutting back on the soda. But I absolutely recommend making these. Best biscuits I ever ate.
Can you just put the dough in the pan and then cut it into 9 squares (vs cutting them on the board and shaping into rounds)?
I followed this recipe to the T-itos! It’s a cold, snowy night here in Utah. These were a perfect match with my homemade chicken noodle soup!
The cocktail helped pass the time until the fluffy angels were done.
Thanks so much!
My dough turned out very sticky. I kept adding more bisquick. It wasn’t as easy for me as it looked like for Jamie in the video. They still tasted really good, but I need to work on my technique.
Can these be made gluten free? Maybe with just gluten-free flour or Gf pancake mix
I have not tried that so I’m not sure.
they make gf bisquik.
Is it possible to get a copy of the recipe I searched for a way to get a copy but I couldn’t find how to do it. Thank you for your help.

Great easy recipe! You made the recipe sound fun. Can these biscuits also be dropped and used to make chicken & dumplings?
Great minds think alike. Check out my chicken and dumplings recipe. https://injamieskitchen.com/https-injamieskitchen-com-chicken-and-dumplings/
I made these tonight to go with hamburger steak and gravy with mashed potatoes. They turned out so tasty! They were not pretty but I plan to work on that. My husband didn’t seem to mind at all though!
You got the important part right lol
I tried them tonight. Came out awful. I don’t know what happened. I followed directions. Maybe my dough was too soft.
